MARGAO
The lady NHRC official also visited the office of the Superintendent of Police, South Arvind Gawas before holding a high-level meeting with the South Goa District Collector Anjali Sehrawat at the Matanhy Saldanha Administrative Complex.
The two stand fans were kept just outside the male and female lock-up at the Margao Police station for the benefit of the under-trials housed inside. The thin carpet was laid inside the lock up to ensure that the under-trials do not sit on the floor.
When The Goan contacted a senior police officer whether the carpet in the lock-up will be a regular feature at the Margao police station, he pointed out that the only problem lies with the fact it may be difficult to replace if the carpets are torn and damaged inside.
Sources in the know said the NHRC official, who has visited various police stations across the state and other centres, is believed to have expressed the view that the situation in Goa is much better compared to the rest of the country.
The official, however, is believed to have raised the query over the presence of the district SP's office at the police station itself.
It is learnt that the NHRC official has promised to recommend shifting of the SP's office from the premises of the police stations.
