Margao Muslims protest against Rohingya persecution

Peaceful rallies taken out in Margao, Vasco; demand immediate UN intervention

Newly-formed Salcete Muslim Forum, a body comprising of various Muslim Jamats in the taluka, on Monday took out a peaceful rally in the city demanding the immediate stop to the persecution and ethnic cleansing of the Rohingya in neighbouring Myanmar.
A huge crowd of Muslim assembled in front of the South Goa Collectorate with placards and banners demanding justice for the Rohingya Muslims. They later took out a rally in the city, demanding intervention by the United Nations to immediately use its high offices and stop the bloodshed in Myanmar and take steps to control the issue before more casualties are reported.
Ashraf Pandiyal told the media that the planned massacre and ethnic cleansing of thousands of Muslims in Rohingya has not only created dissent in India, but has stirred the hearts of Muslims in Asia and across the world.
The Forum also demanded the intervention by India, with a plea made to Union External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj to effected help in the protection of human rights in Myanmar. Ashraf pointed out that the Indian government should treat the Rohingya sympathetically and offer all humanitarian support to the community presently staying in the country.
Copies of the memorandum addressing the UN Secretary General, Antonio Gutterres and Union External Affairs Minister, Sushma Swaraj were later submitted to the district Collectorate officials for necessary action.

MAPUSA The Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) has allotted three places to the Goa Waste Management Corporation (GWMC), so that people from neighbouring panchayats areas can dump their garbage at these sites.
