Margao PS untouched in mass transfer of PIs; raises eyebrows

Why has the government kept on hold the transfer and posting of the in-charge of Margao police station in Wednesday’s mass transfers of police inspectors ahead of the 2017 Assembly election?

MARGAO:

While the Goa Police has transferred all the police inspectors attached to the police stations in Margao police sub-division, namely Colva, Cuncolim and Maina-Curtorim, besides the Konkan Railway Police Station, only Margao police station has turned out an exception, raising many an eyebrows over the delay in posting a police inspector for Margao.
While senior police officials maintained that Margao police station may get the in-charge in the second round of transfers and posting, the Goa Forward Party saw red in the delay in posting an inspector at Margao police station, suspecting that the BJP government appears hell bent in bringing Police Inspector Sudesh Naik to Margao ahead of the Assembly election.
A glance at the scroll of names of Margao police inspectors reveal that PI Sudesh Naik was posted at Margao during the 2007 Assembly election and was shunted out after the poll. He returned to Margao to head the police station after the BJP returned to power soon after the 2012 Assembly election and presided over the police station for nearly three years before being replaced by incumbent PI C L Patil in May 2015.
PI Patil has completed a year-and-half at Margao police station and questions are being raised in the corridors of the district police headquarters, whether this could be the ground for the government for not transferring him out of Margao or whether the government has a PI in mind, who would join the police station at the second round of posting.
Goa Forward spokesman Durgadas Kamat, however, charged that a move is underway to get PI Sudesh Naik back to Margao even though there’s a pending case against him in respect of the recovery of stolen gold ornaments belonging to a burglary victim Surendra Malkarnekar. “PI Sudesh, when he was in Margao had failed to recover the gold ornaments of Malkarnekar. After Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai had raised the issue on the floor of the House, then Chief Minister, Manohar Parrikar had got PI Sudesh transferred out of Margao. We will write to the Election Commission of India, besides the Director General of Police, giving him the facts surrounding PI Sudesh’s transfer and the discreet move to get him back to Margao on the eve of the Assembly election,” he said.
