The Margao unit of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) has busted a train e-ticket racket and have seized more than 100 tickets worth around Rs 2.60 lakh.
As a part of ‘Operation Thunder’ against touts launched across the country, Railway Protection Force of Konkan railway Margao have seized around 119 e-tickets worth Rs 2.60 lakh from a raid at mobile shops in Margao.
The RPF said these tickets were booked by touting agencies through private user IDs which is
punishable offense under Railway Act. The shop owner Arjun Girvole and his associate Rishi Mishra were arrested.
The laptop, mobile and other accessories used for e-ticket
booking were seized by RPF. Both were produced before the local court and were later sent to judicial custody.
A statement issued by the RPF stated that a detailed investigation of the case is presently underway
and involvement of other people is being investigated.
The RPF said the drive launched by RPF is an effort towards ensuring that common man is able to book e-tickets for himself and the middle men/agents are eliminated who are charging them very high rate.
The RPF further claimed that these agencies are charging Rs 100-500 rupees extra per head for the
confirmation of train tickets.
