Margao residents tremble with fear as burglars target yet another house at Fatorda

In fact, two burglaries in a space of one day in the Marlem area of Fatorda has sent shockwaves amongst the residents of the locality as the burglars struck the area with ease. rIf the burglars successfully burgled an apartment at Marlem on Thursday, as they made good their escape with a booty containing valuables worth over Rs 1.5 lakh, they struck back in the same locality on Thursday night in an apartment, just metres away from the previous night burglary. Fortunately, the burglars could not lay their hands on any valuables in the burglary, but the incident has triggered panic in the locality with two thefts reported within the space of two days. If the burglary at the Indradanush apartment was not enough, the burglars struck at ease in the neighbouring Sapna Oasis gated housing complex. rSocial activist, Laurel Abranches said the Thursday night burglary at Marlem indicates that burglars are on the prowl in the locality, even as he demanded that the Margao police intensify night patrolling in the locality. r“The burglaries appear the handiwork of the same gang as is evident by the fact that the miscreants have spit in the house. That the miscreants targeted a neighbouring building last night indicates that they have no fear of the law enforcing agencies,” he said. rAbranches said local NGOs will dash off a letter to the Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, who also holds the Home portfolio, to depute additional policemen to the Margao police station to intensify patrolling in the city. rThe Aquem area of the city, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Margao police station, had reported a spate of thefts in recent times, with not a single burglary detected by the men-in-uniform till date.
