The map of Margao’s underground sewage project has been finally submitted before the High Court on Tuesday, which is expected to provide an insight into the areas covered under the ambitious project, which was kick started in the commercial capital 40 years ago in 1984.
The Sewerage Infrastructure Development Corporation of Goa Ltd (SIDCGL) has submitted a map of the Margao underground sewage network to the High Court on Tuesday.
The High Court had approved a suggestion mooted by the Amicus Curiae that the Core Committee shall prepare and submit a map, in consultation with the office of the PWD, Municipal Council and the Sewerage Infrastructure Development Corporation of Goa Ltd, indicating the areas within the jurisdiction of the Margao Municipal Council, which are connected with sewerage and those which are not, with the Court saying, “even the Municipal Council would be in a position to have bird’s eye view of what areas is yet to be covered and the areas already covered.”
Even as the High Court has adjourned further hearing of the PIL on July 9, questions are being raised whether the PWD has started implementing the vacuum technology in the low-lying areas of Margao where the underground sewage line cannot be laid.
Questions are further raised whether there’s adequate space available to implement the vacuum technology by way of installation of pumping stations along the low-lying areas of Malbhat and Gandhi Market.
“All these questions will be deliberated at the Core Committee panel headed by Margao Municipal Chief Officer. The issue of vacuum technology has come to the fore since there are many households in Malbhat which has expressed their willingness to obtain the sewerage connections, but cannot do so for lack of a sewerage line in their locality,” sources added.
