MARGAO
The Enough is Enough movement will hold a mashal programme near the Margao Municipal Council building on Friday, on the eve of Independence Day, to demand the scrapping of Section 39A of the TCP Act.
The movement’s Salcete coordinator, Serafino Cota, has appealed to people of Margao in particular and Salcete in general to assemble near the Margao Municipal Council building at 7.15 pm and participate in the mashal (torch) programme.
Cota told the media that the lighting of the mashal is part of a public awareness programme being organised by the movement across the talukas on Friday as part of its agitation to demand the scrapping of Section 39A.
The Enough is Enough movement has submitted a 10-point charter of demands aimed at preventing further degradation of the State. “The hills and forests are the heritage of the people. Amend Section 17A to end development on hills and cutting of hills,” states one of the demands in the charter.
