MARGAO
Margao's lone flyover connecting the city to Navelim over the railway tracks has been craving for attention for long now, but the PWD, National Highway division seemed to have no immediate plan in place to repair the road overbridge.
Steel rods protruding out of the surface on the flyover pose danger to vehicles plying on the flyover, disrupting traffic on the bridge, but PWD officials are yet to come out of their air-conditioned cabins to get the first hand experience of the suffering motorists.
What's interesting to note is that the SDM, Margao Uday Prabhudesai had a fortnight ago called a meeting with the PWD officials and the Konkan Railway Corporation, but the ground reality has not changed till date.
In fact, the SDM had issued clear directions to the PWD as well as the KRC officials to take up the repairs and maintenance of the flyover, but in vain.
Senior NH officials were not available for comment, but sources in the know said the department had two months ago prepared Rs 35 lakh estimate for the repairs of the surface and replacement of the worn out rubber joints, but the proposal has still not found favour with the higher officials.
A resident of Sirlim, Wilson Viegas said that it is indeed sad that the pathetic state of the flyover has still not evoked any response from the government and the PWD officials.
"Leave alone the major repairs and maintenance, motorists are expecting the PWD to at least fill up the potholes and save them from accidents," Wilson said.
