In order to prevent the spread and create awareness about vector borne diseases as well as treat those who are already afflicted by it, officials of Urban Health Centre, Margao held a screening drive at Gandhi market, Margao on Wednesday.
Briefing mediaperson during the course of this drive, Health Educator at UHC, Margao, Krishna Panchawdker said the screening drive was mainly aimed at migrants -- particulary the fruit and vegetable vendors. "Many of these vendors come early in the morning for work, while some chronic alcoholic migrants sleep here as well. When some of them were tested positive for vector borne diseases, we could not trace them. Hence, we held a screening drive here where around 70 to 80 people participated and have their blood samples after being satisfied with the purpose of this drive. We give them treatment to stop transmission," Panchwadker added.
Sanitary Inspector attached to UHC, Margao, Jai Kumar Naik, informed that many slides of blood samples were taken of the migrants at Gandhi market during the course of this drive.
"They were also asked to maintain cleanliness in the area," Naik added.
