Maritime restrictions imposed in Mandovi for I-Day security

PANAJI: The Captain of Ports Department has imposed restrictions on vessel movement in the Mandovi River on August 15 as part of security arrangements for the Independence Day celebrations at the Old Secretariat.

According to a Notice to Mariners issued by the department, all barges and boats, except those engaged in essential services, will have to suspend operations between 7 am and 12 noon on August 15.

The restriction will apply to the stretch from the western side of the old Mandovi Bridge up to the Panaji-Betim Ferry Ramp.

The department has also prohibited vessels from anchoring or docking at the Captain of Ports jetty located opposite the Old Secretariat during the specified period.

The Captain of Ports Department has warned that any violation of the security restrictions will be viewed seriously.
