PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has extended Independence Day greetings to the people of Goa, Indians, and the Indian diaspora, urging citizens to remain united and uphold the spirit of “Nation First”.
In his message on the eve of the 80th Independence Day, Sawant said the occasion was also an opportunity to remember the sacrifices of those who fought for India’s freedom.
“As the nation proudly hoists the Tiranga under the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, we also commemorate 150 years of Vande Mataram, the timeless anthem that inspired generations of Indians with courage, sacrifice and unwavering patriotism,” he said.
Recalling Goa’s contribution to the freedom struggle, Sawant paid tribute to the freedom fighters and unsung heroes of the Patradevi Satyagraha and the Goa Liberation Movement.
“India’s Independence on 15th August 1947 was secured through the sacrifices of countless freedom fighters and unsung heroes. For Goa, the spirit of Vande Mataram continued through the Patradevi Satyagraha and the Goa Liberation Movement, ultimately leading to Goa’s liberation and its proud place in the Indian Union,” he said.
The Chief Minister said Goa’s development must move alongside the preservation of its heritage, traditions and culture. He highlighted efforts towards building a Swayampurna Goa through inclusive growth, quality education, better healthcare, modern infrastructure and sustainable development, in line with the broader vision of Viksit Bharat.
Emphasising the responsibilities that come with freedom, Sawant said, “Freedom is not merely a celebration but a shared responsibility.”
He called upon citizens to participate in the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, remain united and carry the message of Vande Mataram forward for future generations.
