Marna-Siolim VP will not give NOC to petrol pump, says Sarpanch

MAPUSA
Marna-Siolim Sarpanch Shonali Agarwadekar has assured locals that the panchayat would not grant any NOC for a petrol pump near a school in the village.

According to reports, the panchayat had received a proposal to set up a petrol pump, but locals and the school management submitted four complaints to the panchayat, opposing the petrol pump on grounds that the school and houses were in close proximity to the proposed petrol pump.

Acting on the complaint, panchayat members, the petroleum company's officials and a group of locals surveyed the area.

"If the proposal goes ahead, our legal fight against the petrol pump will continue," warned school manager Parmanand Mandrekar.

The petroleum company officials tried to explain their side as well but angry locals and local panch Sharmila Vernekar were in no mood to listen to them.

Panchas Vighnesh Chodankar, Freddie Fernandes, the panchayat secretary, Siolim Nagrik Samiti President Amrut Agarwadekar, the school principal Sudesh Kochrekar, teachers and villagers were present during the survey.
