MARGAOrrAddressing a one-day workshop on Marxism organised by ‘Dakshinayan Abhiyan’ in Margao on Sunday, Abhyankar elaborated on the political, economic rand philosophical aspects of Marxism. rAbhyankar dealt with dialectical materialism and historical materialism while explaining the philosophy of Marxism. Two other aspects of Marxism which he touched upon included the economic analysis of Marxism and the theory of socialism and communism. r“The first tenet of dialectical analysis is that world is in motion while the second tenet states that the whole is the only truth and the rest is all partly true,” Abhyankar remarked, while citing many examples to drive home his point.r“The dialectical method teaches us to take a broader view of things,” he told the audience. rClaiming that the whole is greater than the sum total of parts, Abhyankar said the world is to be understood in motion. rExplaining the third feature, Abhyankar highlighted the Unity of Opposites and mentioned the fourth aspect as how things change quantitatively. r“Darwin’s view is a vindication of the dialectic method of thinking,” he added, as he also mentioned about dialectical materialism. r“Marx believed what exists is matter and nothing but matter. The world is nothing but transformation of one thing into another. There is no creation, only transformation. The world is one,” he told the audience. rEarlier, industrialist Datta Naik welcomed the gathering.

Stating that Marxism is not just a philosophy but also a world view, Marxist scholar Ajit Abhyankar claimed this concept encompasses all movements of toiling, working, oppressed and excluded classes.
