A mattress shop caught fire at Agassaim on Thursday night.
According to Old Goa fire station duty officer Amit Rivonkar, a call was received from former Agassaim sarpanch Xavier Gracias at around 8.42 pm stating that a mattress shop had caught fire at Baiza de Igreja.
“We rushed to the site and noticed smoke billowing from the premises. As we probed further, a huge fire engulfed the shop and we had to summon reinforcement from Verna fire station after which the fire was brought under control and extinguished,” Rivonkar stated, adding that the cause of the fire could not be ascertained.
Driver operator Ramesh Virdikar, firefighters Paresh Gawas, Hanuman Malik and Shivanand Gawade participated in the firefighting exercise which took over two hours.
