BICHOLIM
A group of locals from Maulinguem-Bicholim complained to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and later jeered at Mayem MLA Pravin Zantye on Thursday evening over issues pertaining to jobs and roads in the village.
The incident took place during Sawant's tour of the Mayem constituency when he visited Maulinguem village to interact with the locals.
Shortly after his speech, Sawant then invited locals to raise their queries and concerns.
At that time, some locals raised the issue of contract workers not being regularised at a company located in the village. They also complained about poor roads in the village.
The unhappy locals said they had brought these grievances to the notice of Zantye and accused him of failing to resolve the matter.
They complained that ministers and MLAs are rarely interested in their grievances and only visit villages ahead of elections.
The chief minister assured to look into their grievances and then left the hall.
The locals, however, confronted Zantye, who was still in the hall.
Zantye told them that he had convened a number of meetings with the company over the regularisation in services of contract workers, while land dispute had hampered the construction of roads in the village.
The chief minister, who was still in his vehicle at the time, then sent his security to escort Zantye out of the hall and locals jeered at the MLA as he left the venue.
