A day after the police implicated him on the charge of abatement to suicide in the case of Prakash Naik, the Merces panch and MGP leader who reportedly shot himself to death last week, Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho’s brother Wilson filed an anticipatory bail application before a court fearing arrest.
Details of Godinho’s plea were not available but he told the media that he is being falsely implicated in the case.
“I sympathise with the family of Naik. I am being falsely linked to the case. The police should investigate the matter thoroughly without any external influence,” Godinho told the media.
Naik, 45, who had a real estate firm, died last Friday after he reportedly shot himself at his residence in Merces.
Minutes before he reportedly shot himself, Naik who is a former sarpanch of Merces and was the MGP candidate at the 2017 assembly elections from St Cruz, had posted a WhatsApp message on a friends group naming Godinho and another buisinessman as blackmailing him.
Naik’s family members also addressed a press conference
where his sister Sarita Govekar had claimed they had resolved not to receive her brother’s body and perform the last rites hold unless police arrest those named in the Whatsapp message.
The family however conducted the last rights on Monday after the police booked Godinho and another business associate Tahir Irani for abatement to suicide on Sunday.
