Verna Police on Sunday arrested three persons from in and around Verna and also attached two bulls in connection with a bull fight in Verna.

According to report, Verna Police received specific information that a Dhirio (bull fight) was being conducted near Sonar wada in Pinni and a police team rushed to the site.

People who had gathered for the bull fight fled from the site on noticing the police team, leaving behind the bulls brought for the bull fight.

Verna police attached the bulls and later arrested three persons, Sydney D’Costa of Verna, Caitano Braganza of Cansaulim and Roquezinho D’Silva of Nagoa in this connection. The accused were later released on bail. Verna Police is investigating the case under the supervision of PI Harish Madkaikar.

Bullfights are normally held secretly to ensure that police do not get a whiff of it. At times, police turn a blind eye over such events.

The High Court of Bombay at Goa banned bullfights in in 1997. The ban was later upheld by the Supreme Court.
