Stating that a mega rally in support of the Citizen Amendment Act (CAA) has been planned in Panaji on January 3, Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho has accused the opposition of seeking publicity by misguiding people on CAA.

Godinho was interacting with reporters on Tuesday evening after inaugurating a toilet facility at a cost of about Rs 1 crore for residents of Housing Board in New Vaddem, built under CSR by the Goa Shipyard Limited.

Godinho later convened a meeting of party workers in his constituency office, which was also attended by former Fatorda MLA Damu Naik.

“BJP Working President J P Nadda will arrive in Goa on Friday and there will be a huge meeting and people from all over Goa will gather to extend support to the CAA.

“There has been a lot of debate on CAA and people have been misguided by the opposition. To ensure that this misguided information ends, we will have a massive rally to create awareness and extend our support to CAA.”

“Most people have now realised that CAA is not against any Indian community but it is only offering citizenship to Indian minorities like Hindus, Sikhs, Christians, Buddhists and Jains who were being prosecuted in neighbourhood countries and were forced to return and seek shelter in India,” said Godinho.

“It was former prime minister Manmohan Singh who had demanded in Parliament to get this bill passed immediately as several Sikhs and others like Hindus and Catholics were suffering in countries like Pakistan.”

“Prakash Karat, General secretary of CPI (M)’ had also placed a written demand to implement this bill. But today, since they are in opposition, they want to misguide people to malign the image of BJP and PM Narendra Modi,” Godinho added.

Former Fatorda MLA Damu Naik said the BJP would have meetings in all constituencies in the State to create awareness on the  Citizen Amendment Act.
