Unfazed that only two berths are left in the cabinet for BJP legislators, Dabolim MLA Mauvin Godinho has insisted that Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar would take the right decision and at the right time.
“I am of the firm opinion that a person of the calibre of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar knows very well where and when to accommodate me. So, I have no heartburns whatsoever and my first priority is for my constituency,” said Godinho, while responding to The Goan on his prospects for a ministerial berth.
“I know that it will make things much easier for me as a minister and I know that it will be better for the people of my constituency as even they desire that I should be a minister. But within the present scheme of things, I have to make adjustments and I have full faith in the leadership of Manohar Parrikar and that he will do justice to me.” Godinho said he was happy as an MLA since a BJP government has been formed.
“Primarily happy, because Parrikar has come back as chief minister of the State. The last time when Parrikar was chief minister, he had managed affairs in a beautiful manner even though mining had suffered and there was a setback to the state’s finances,” said the Dabolim MLA.
“It is a fact that I joined the BJP much earlier than others. Though technically I was elected as Congress MLA, I was supporting the BJP for all practical purposes because I liked the way Parrikar performed.”
“It is not always that one gets good things by desire and sometimes, one gets good thing by default. All would wish to be in the cabinet and be the part of the government, but as against the background of having secured a fractured mandate, it is for everybody to see how many ministerial berths have been given out to keep a stable government further,” added Godinho
Godinho said it was only because of Parrikar that the BJP could muster the required numbers to decide the formation of the government.
“To have all round development and progress of the state, you need stability and stability sometimes calls for a lot of sacrifices and that is what has happened to most people who were in BJP,” Godinho said.
