Tourist bus services to lake will be resumed: GTDC chief

In a significant step towards restoring the glory of the famous Mayem Lake, the Goa Tourism Department Corporation (GTDC) has launched several development initiatives and tourism-oriented projects in the scenic lake area.
As part of these efforts, a new Kayaking facility was inaugurated on Monday in the presence of prominent dignitaries.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Rajya Sabha MP Sadanand Tanavade, GTDC Chairman Kedar Naik, Mayem MLA Premendra Shet, Director of Tourism Kuldip Arolkar, Navin Dias, Poonam Ribo, Zilla Panchayat Member Kunda Manjrekar, official Deepak Narvekar, and other dignitaries.
Following the inauguration of the kayaking facility, MP Sadanand Tanavade, GTDC Chairman Kedar Naik, and MLA Premendra Shet personally experienced the new attraction by enjoying a kayaking safari on the lake.
Speaking on the occasion, GTDC Chairman Kedar Naik said Mayem Lake is one of Goa’s most important and recognised tourist destinations. Various initiatives, including water sports activities, boating, lake safaris, and recreational attractions, are being introduced to enhance the visitor experience.
He expressed confidence that the newly launched kayaking facility would emerge as a major attraction and help draw both domestic and international tourists to the destination. Naik also announced that tourist bus services to Mayem Lake will be resumed, making the site more accessible and further increasing visitor footfall.
To improve the overall tourism experience, a catering and restaurant facility has also been established in the area, offering visitors quality food and refreshments. He added that several more tourism-oriented projects are planned for the future.
MP Sadanand Tanavade stated the State government, the tourism department, GTDC, and local representatives are jointly working towards the comprehensive development of the Mayem Lake area.
MLA Premendra Shet said that continuous efforts have been made to develop the Mayem Lake area since he assumed office. Apart from kayaking, several nature-based tourism facilities have been introduced. Boating services, beautification projects, visitor amenities, and the resumption of tourist buses will significantly enhance the appeal of the destination.
He also stressed the importance of ensuring the safety and security of tourists visiting the site.
Shet further revealed that plans are under consideration to introduce a Snake Park, decorative fountains, and other recreational attractions in the future to make Mayem Lake an even more vibrant tourism destination.
