Meat Complex contract workers call off strike

The contract workers at Goa Meat Complex (GMC) in Usgao called off their proposed strike, after being assured of their salaries which have been pending for four months.

PONDA

GMC Managing Director Dr Uday Pednekar told The Goan that the issue had been resolved. “Their salaries were pending since January for want of grants. We have already communicated with government and the salaries will be disbursed soon,” Dr Pednekar said.
Dr Pednekar informed that 42 workers were taken on contract basis after an approval from the board and said GMC was bound to pay them.
“They will surely get their salaries. We have initiated a process for that. No sooner the grants are released, we will pay them,” he said.
Sources informed that after GMC officials were informed about the proposed strike on Saturday, they convened a meeting with workers and persuaded them to call off their strike.
