Meet deliberates on tackling garbage menace

Garbage collection and disposal dominated the gram sabha of the village panchayat of Rumdamol on Sunday, with agitated members demanding a stop rnto construction activity until the resolution of the waste issue.

Housing Board officials, who had attended the gram sabha since they had asked for NOC for its housing project, said they will place the views of the panchayat at the next meeting of the Board.  
The gram sabha members called for a solution to the waste disposal problem, with members demanding that the panchayat should not permit any new housing projects till the garbage problem is settled.
Members also demanded to know from the secretary the fate of the door-to-door waste collection and the disposal as they pointed out that dumping of waste in open spaces have not stopped till date.

BRICS summit: BSNL gets nod to erect temporary towers

The Benaulim gram sabha on Sunday accorded its approval to BSNL to erect temporary mobile towers in the village ahead of the BRICS summit, even as members called for convening a special gram sabha to work out a permanent solution on the contentious issue of erection of mobile towers in the village.
