Meet on ‘Smart City’ issues on Jan 10

PANAJI

Amidst the growing voices of discontent over the hardships and hazards faced due to the ongoing Smart City work in the capital city, days after Ribandar youth Ayush Halarnkar died plunging into a pit dug at Mala with his bike, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday said that the government has convened a meeting to discuss issues related to Smart City Project on January 10.

The meeting will be attended with all department heads connected with the work besides CCP Mayor and officials of the Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Limited (IPSCDL).

Meanwhile on Friday, Panaji Mayor Rohit Monserrate along with Panaji Traffic Cell in-charge inspected the work sites of the ongoing Smart City projects across the city.

Monserrate asked the contractors to put in place the quintessential safety measures within the next two days.

Monserrate said that there are multiple contractors, each with their own plans, executing the smart city projects and they have excavated all the city roads.

The mayor said, he had recommended that the contractors who fail to take the necessary safety measures be issued notices and recalled.

Apart from being the mayor of the capital city, Monserrate is also a member of the IPSCDL board of directors. His father, Revenue Minister, Atanasio (Babush) Monserrate, represents Panaji as its MLA and is also on the BoD of IPSCDL and the duo have drawn flak over the execution of the work.
