Mentally disturbed man found, suspected to be thief in Betim

A 26-year-old man, who had reportedly gone missing from Candolim, was found wandering in the Betim area on Saturday after locals suspected him to be a thief.

According to police, the Police Robot-9 staff attached to Porvorim Police Station brought the man to the police station at around 2 pm, after he was found knocking on doors of houses in Betim. Locals had caught him on suspicion of being a thief.

At the police station, the man was found behaving abnormally. Meanwhile, one person came at the police station and disclosed his name as Mahendra Madan Hembram of Ludzari Dist-Devgarh, Jharkhand. He further identified the mentally disturbed person to be his cousin  Ramesh Sisulal Hajda (26) of Ludzari, Devgarh, Jharkhand..

Hembram mentioned that Ramesh was mentally disturbed and had been undergoing medical treatment in his native place for more than a year. He stated that both of them had come to Goa on October 1 and were staying in Candolim.

Ramesh subsequently left the place without informing anyone, and Mahendra had been searching for him. He also said that Ramesh had left without taking his prescribed tablets.

Ramesh was later taken for medical examination to the Institute of Psychiatry and Human Behaviour (IPHB), Bambolim. Following examination, the medical officer admitted him to the hospital for further medical treatment.
