Water sports operations along the Salcete beach belt came to an abrupt halt on Wednesday noon following a warning issued by the Captain of Ports of rough weather condition forecast by the Met department.
At the world-famous Colva beach, which has become a hub of water sports operations down South, water sports operators were left
with no option but to tow their vessels ashore after receiving the warning from the Captain of Ports.
As the water sports operators lost half day business on Wednesday, they are keeping their fingers crossed and hope the weather Gods will be kind to them so that they resume their operations on Thursday.
When The Goan contacted Captain of Ports James Braganza to shed light on the warning issued to the water sports operators to stop their operations since Wednesday noon, he said the directions were issued based on the warning received from the Met department. “The Met department had warned that high velocity winds would trigger huge waves along the coast on Wednesday. Accordingly, we dispatched the warning to the water sports operators to stop the operations immediately,” he said.
To a question, James Braganza said since the Captain of Ports continuously monitors the reports received from the weather department, department officials will take stock of the situation on Thursday based on fresh reports from the Met department.
