The Aam Aadmi Party on Friday termed the contempt petition filed by Goa government against Karnataka for diversion of river Mhadei water as an “eyewash”.
AAP leader Adv Surel Tilve alleged that in an attempt to play safe, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant is resorting to ways that won’t have any impact. “The contempt petition has no grounds because the Central government has already issued a gazette notification allowing Karnataka to implement the Mhadei project,” he sought to point out.
“In a letter responding to CM Sawant which was written on March 5, 2020, Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said that Karnataka does not require any permission from the Goa government to build its project on Mhadei. Why hasn’t CM Sawant discussed this with PM Modi in his recent meeting when Jal Shakti minister has nothing to offer? What matters to the Centre is the number of parliamentary seats and that is why Karnataka is dearer to BJP’s central government than Goa,” Tilve charged adding that all the evidence is showing that BJP is favouring Karnataka.
The AAP leader accused CM Sawant of compromising with the future of Goa’s children. “We won’t allow this to happen. I again request all the parties to work with us and make a strong force to save mother Mhadei,” he said.
AAP has called upon Goans to pressurize the central government to intervene in an unbiased manner and listen to the issue of Mhadei instead of waiting for CM Sawant to act.
