Mhadei: Joint Committee to visit Kalsa site today

BELAGAVI

Acting on directives of the Supreme Court, members of the Joint Inspection Committee (JIC) from Karnataka, Maharashtra and Goa will visit the water diversion site of the Kalsa rivulet near Kankumbi village on Friday.

Constituted as per the Supreme Court's orders to ascertain whether Karnataka has physically diverted the Kalsa rivulet water, the committee will visit the Kalsa-Banduri project site at Kankumbi in Khanapur taluka.

Acting on the contempt plea filed by Goa, the Supreme Court had directed the formation of the JIC earlier this month.

Karnataka has claimed that it has built a retainer wall to halt the flow of water from Kalsa rivulet to Mhadei.

The JIC comprises Executive Engineer from Navilteerth Dam Krishnojirao, Goa's Assistant Executive Engineer of Water Resources Department M K Prasad and Senior Engineer from Maharashtra Water Resources Department Vijaykumar Thorat.

Superintending Engineer R B Dyamannavar will be facilitating the visit of the JIC.
