The Murgao Hindu Samaj (MHS) has undertaken repairs of the roof at the Hindu Crematorium at Kharewaddo-Vasco and also fixed roof sheets which were blown away during the recent cyclone Tauktae.
“People visiting the crematorium for final rites would be inconvenienced especially during rains. MHS President Nana Bandekar had appealed to patrons to come forward to undertake the repair of this shed and many people contributed as well,” said MHS member Shekhar Khadapkar.
MHS member Krishna Salkar said that Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) had handed over maintenance of the Hindu Crematorium at Kharewado to the Murgao Hindu Samaj.
“Whenever we had small repairs, Bandekar would help us through his NRB Group. This time due to the cyclone, major repair work was needed. While we were taking up the work, we realised that the iron base was corroded and decided to take up the entire roof structure of the crematorium.”
“This is a major work at a cost of Rs 10.5 lakh and it includes new roof sheets, new structures, additional work, new tresses and painting,” said Salkar.
