Former Nuvem MLA Mickky Pacheco on Saturday suspected the hand of the Congress behind the spate of desecration of crosses in Salcete to paint the BJP-led government in bad light and return back to power.

MARGAOr rHe has appealed to the government to immediately nab the culprits as well as find out the people behind the desecrations. He said that people should not use religion to come to power, while saying that the government should be given a chance to run the government. rAddressing the media, the former minister said that the spate of desecrations witnessed in Salcete is not the handiwork of outsiders, but people from within who have hired miscreants from outside to commit these acts. “The government should immediately nab the miscreants and nab the persons who have hired the miscreants to indulge in these anti-social activities,” he said. rMickky pointed out that while temples were being desecrated during the Congress tenure, the miscreants have now targeted Christian crosses during the BJP rule. “You can very well establish the motive behind these desecrations. One should not indulge in politics over religion just to claw your way back to power,” Mickky said.
In what appears to be a game of political one-upmanship, elections to the sarpanch and the deputy in Anjuna panchayat were adjourned despite all 11 elected members present at the meeting hall on Saturday.
