Margao Sports Club demolished Betalbatim Sporting Club 4-2 to advance into the quarterfinals of All Goa St Anthony's Festival Cup inter-village football tournament organized by St Anthony's Sports Club, Assolda at Panchayat grounds, Assolda on Thursday. Both the teams were tied 1-1 at the breather.
Betalbatim Sporting Club attacked right from the word go and shot into the lead in the 15th minute when Aniston Fernandes' rasping shot crashed into the net.
Stung by the goal, Margao Sports Club regrouped quickly and enjoyed the nice spell of possesion and five minutes later Clencio Pinto neutralized the lead with a stiff grounder.
Crossing over, Margao Sports Club started aggressivley and Cliff Baretto was at the heart of Margao Sports Club's fludity in the midfield, creating spaces and leaving the rival defence gasping for breath. However, it was Betalbatim Sporting Club who made it 2-1 in the 37th minute through the boots of Klinsman Pereira. Stung by that setabck, Margao Sports Club went into attacking mode and in the 45th minute Cliff Baretto cancelled the lead.
The equaliser boosted the morale of Margao players as they galvanished the attacks and in the 50th minute Roque Borges increased the lead in the 50th minute. Jason Pinto drove the last nail into rival's coffin late in the second half.
