The all-party delegation to New Delhi to petition the central government to intervene and possibly prevent the stoppage of mining activity, was not as successful as they had hoped, but not as unsuccessful as has been reported in the mainstream media, Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral who was part of the delegation to New Delhi said.
Cabral, who addressed a press conference upon his return from Delhi along with Deepak Prabhu Pauskar and Rajesh Patnekar, said they would make yet another trip to Delhi over the coming weekend in the hope of meeting Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad as well as Union Minister for Mines Narendra Singh Tomar to once again place before them their demand, this time with a proper explanation of what they are demanding for and why.
Cabral sought to stress that Goyal’s initial remarks as reported in the media, were made before he fully understood the issue and later apologised for his initial comments.
“At the Rajya Sabha, in the meeting with the Mines Secretary, Piyush Goyal entered as he had some work and as we were speaking he said: ‘These things cannot happen. The government has taken a decision to go for auctions and if we do this it will become like Coalgate. We are not denying that he said these things,” Cabral said.
