Minister bats for digital meters, queue system for GoaMiles

Stoutly defending the installation of digital meters, Ports Minister Michael Lobo said everyone including the GoaMiles should follow a queue system while collecting customers from the hotel.

“Whoever says they don’t want digital meters is wrong. A customer should know what he is paying for. But someone intruding into a hotel and taking the guest out of turn is also wrong. Whether it is GoaMiles or any other Miles, nobody can just come and take a customer from the hotel. Let them stand in queue and take the guests,” said Lobo, while sympathising with the taxi drivers.

The Ports Minister was addressing the media at his residence in Parra, even as a group of agitated taxi drivers were protesting outside his gate.

“I support every taxi driver whether they belong to my party or any other political party. I support them only for one reason because they are Goans,” Lobo said.

He said he has spoken to the chief minister and the transport minister about the taxi drivers' issue and very soon a meeting would be convened with the taximen to resolve the problems once and for all.

The Ports Minister also said he fully stood by the digital meter and urged everyone to install the same.

“If everyone installs digital meters and GoaMiles drivers are made to follow the queue system, then the problem can be resolved,” he said.
