Tourism Minister and Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte said it is not only the duty of the PWD to stop water leakages, but it is also the responsibility of citizens to make judicious use of water.
He was speaking at the event organised by Porvorim BJP Mandal to observe ‘Jal Hi Jeevan’ as a part of the Seva Pakhwada.
As part of the event, a human chain near the water treatment water treatment plant was formed by around 300 residents. Penha de Franca Sarpanch Swapnil Chodankar, Socorro Sarpanch Soniya Pednekar, ZP member Kavita Naik and panch members of Penha de Franca, Socorro and Salvador do Mundo panchayat participated in the event.
“Water is a precious commodity and it should not be wasted. It is our moral duty to conserve water for future generations or else they will curse us later,” said Khaunte.
“The purpose of organising this event was to involve residents of all age groups and communities in this ‘Jal Hi Jeevan’. Porvorim is located at the tail end, on account of which, residents of this constituency have faced water scarcity in the past. They are aware of the importance of water,” said Khaunte.
