With the Janata darbar intended to provide on-the-spot relief to citizens, PWD Minister Digambar Kamat kicked off his public interaction exercise at the Margao Municipal by issuing strict directions to the Margao Municipal Council and the police to crack a whip on vegetable vendors on the congested Margao station road.
After Margao New Market trader Gopal Naik along with Digambar Sawal drew attention of the PWD Minister to the vegetable market along the Station after 6 in the evening every day, a visibly agitated Kamat sought told the MMC Chief Officer Madhu Narvekar to get the civic staff on their toes to rid the station road of vendors selling vegetable and fruits.
That’s not all. The PWD Minister telephoned Sub-divisional Police Officer, Margao DySP Sidhant Shirodkar and instructed him to deploy a posse of policemen on the station road to rid the vegetable and fruit vendors from the road. “Deploy a posse of policemen on the station road from 6 pm to 10 pm every day for a period of eight days to crack a whip against the vendors”, he told DySP Shirodkar.
He added; “I am not bothered what happens on the station road after 9 pm, but I want the road cleared of the illegal vendors from 6 pm to 9 pm. The MMC Chief officer Madhu Narvekar is also seized of the matter. I am sure action will follow against the illegal vendors”, he added.
The PWD Minister told the media that the entire exercise of public interaction is to give instant relief to the citizens. “My very presence in the Margao Municipal hall should make the officers and staff work with responsibility. I will not spare anyone meting out harassment to the public”, he added.
He further told the media that he would also visit the South Goa district Collectorate on Friday to hear public grievances.
