Stressing on the significance of ‘har ghar jal’, Ports Minister, Michael Lobo said he would soon begin visiting various panchayats in Bardez to discuss and resolve basic issues like water, electricity, roads and garbage.
He said Mapusa, Assagao and coastal areas faced water problems because the infrastructure which was created way back in the 1980s has not been upgraded.
“With the increase in new constructions and a rise in population, the water demand has increased. There is a need to create new infrastructure keeping in mind future requirements,” Lobo said.
The Ports Minister was addressing the media after holding a meeting of Assagao panchayat members along with the PWD Executive Engineer at the Assagao panchayat office.
Assagao Sarpanch Hanumant Naik, Deputy Sarpanch Kartik Kelkar and other panchayat members were also present.
Assagao Sarpanch Hanumant Naik informed that Ports Minister Lobo assured to help the panchayat to resolve the water problems in the village.
“We have proposed a new water tank Near the DMC College of 300 MLD as the existing tank is not sufficient for the village,” Naik said.
He said the panchayat has also proposed a water tank at Sonarkhid in Assagao.
