Ministers can definitely visit other constituencies: BJP prez

Stating that ministers were free to visit other constituencies, BJP State President Sadanand Shet Tanavade on Monday said the party ministers would officially tour different constituencies after Ganesh Chaturthi.

He was responding to media queries about the recent visit of Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho in the Cortalim constituency, which had led to verbal clashes between Godinho and Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha.

“If legislators feel safe in their constituency, they can tour other constituencies. Besides, a minister can definitely visit other constituencies," said Tanavade.

When asked to comment on a possible change in the Cortalim constituency and the ticket allotment to the 10 legislators who had left Congress to join BJP, Tanavade replied that the ticket allotment would be decided through an election committee and a decision would be taken by the parliamentary committee.

“Even though Godinho is the only choice in Dabolim, procedures will have to be followed and we cannot forcibly allot tickets to anyone. The 10 legislators who joined us are now our family and we don't look at them as outsiders. These legislators have taken forward the works of BJP in their respective constituencies,” said Tanavade.
