Teenager’s death: NGO demands justice with candlelight procession in Benaulim

MARGAO

Jagrut Xaxttikar on Monday demanded justice for young Sidhi Naik who was found dead in mysterious circumstances on the Calangute beach recently.

Armed with placards demanding justice for the young girl, members of the NGO took out a candlelight procession in Benaulim on Monday evening before culminating in a small meeting.

Coming down heavily on the government over increasing crimes, speakers reminded the Pramod Sawant-led government that Goans are demanding for their safety and security, saying people are no longer secured in their homes and outside.

Jose Feranndes cautioned the people that crimes will continue to rise if the society does not come together to condemn and protest over the situation. Reminding that Benaulim beach had witnessed rapes on two minor girls, Jose demanded from the government and the police updates on the heinous crimes on the two minors. “If the society had to wake up and protest in the past, the death of Sidhi Naik would not have occurred. We have to raise our voice against these injustices on women and minor girls”, he said.

Activist Santan Pereira blamed the leaders and Legislators who are representing the people in the Legislative Assembly for the present crime situation. “When we had representatives accused of rape, smuggling, Matka gambling, corruption in the Assembly, what better things can be expected from these leaders”, he questioned, demanding immediate updates on the two minor girls who were raped on the Benaulim beach recently.

He said the preliminary investigations into Sidhi Naik’s case has been botched up and the witnesses hushed up, saying this only goes to show that the government and the investigation agencies are protecting the criminals.
