Occupants of a mud house at Dongrim-Mandur had a lucky escape as the front portion collapsed on Sunday morning. Speaking to The Goan, Mandur sarpanch Prashant Naik informed that he received information that a wall of the house belonging to Ghanshyam Halarnkar had collapsed in the morning, at Manxer-Dongrim.

“I immediately rushed to the site and, along with the daughter-in-law, started clearing the debris,” Naik informed, adding that the mother was also inside the house at that moment.

“However, I sensed the danger of the roof collapsing and, along with the mother, the daughter-in-law rushed outside just in the nick of time,” Naik stated, and added that the roof came crashing down soon thereafter.

“It was indeed a miraculous escape for us as well as the occupants of the house,” Naik stated. On the loss suffered in the house collapse, Halarnkar informed that it is over Rs 5 lakh.

“But, the other walls have all become weak and the entire house needs to be rebuilt, which will cost at least Rs 20 lakh, which we cannot afford,” Halarnkar informed, while urging the government to come to their

aid.

“We need urgent help from the government, and I pin my hope on CM Pramod Sawant to provide me with maximum financial help under the Disaster Management Fund,” Halarnkar’s son Sanjay appealed.

Sarpanch Naik too demanded that the authorities should expedite the issue of releasing funds under Disaster Management, as the family were preparing to celebrate Ganesh

Chaturthi.

“This is the main house of the Halarnkar family, and they now have no place to celebrate Chaturthi,” Naik stated.
