MARGAO
Motorists travelling on the Margao ring road on Sunday evening came across a major fire near the Comba railway level crossing.
For, miscreants set afire garbage and waste at the black spot, just a stone throw away from the level crossing.
This isn’t the first time that the mixed waste dumped at the black spot has been disposed of by burning. In fact, the same black spot was in the news on umpteen number of times with the accumulated waste disposed of by burning at the site.
In fact, waste dump along the road tracks passing through the city, more often than not, is disposed of by burning, causing health hazard to the residents staying along the railway tracks. Though waste burning is an offense under the National Green Tribunal’s Polluter Pays Principle, the Goa State Pollution Control Board or the local Margao Municipal body has never cracked a whip against the violators.
Recently, the huge waste mound that has taken shape on the Sports of Authority of Goa’s acquired land for the hockey ground was set afire by miscreants, throwing up smoke for days together.
