The Nuvem stretch of the Western bypass has been finally illuminated by the PWD, National Highways.

For a long time now, the bypass stretch passing through Nuvem had remained in darkness for want of illumination, causing many accidents. In fact, apart from routine commuters, people from South Goa heading for the Novenas of St Francis Xavier in the wee hours of the day had complained of absence of illumination along the bypass stretch.

The issue  had figured at the South Goa District Road Safety meeting held under the Chairmanship of MP Captain Viriato Fernandes after local residents of Nuvem led by Everson Vales demanded action in the matter.

Everson Vales told the media that the negligence and ego of NH Engineers and MVR had to be broken at the District Road safety Meeting under the Chairmanship of MP South Capt. Viriato Fernandes since the bypass road was without illumination for a long time now.

He said the residents had brought the serious situation to the notice of the South Goa MP since the Nuvem Western Bypass road from Verna to Nuvem, is in complete darkness and there is no illumination for the motorist who are plying this route during night time.

“We have made our investigation and found that the PWD Division XIV (Highways) is transferring the responsibility on MVR Constructions who are the contractors for laying the power cables and maintaining the highway lights”, he said.

He added: “MVR Constructions had blamed the PWD Division XIV (Highways) for not taking over the project from MVR Constructions since after maintaining the lights for the last two years. This standoff between PWD Division XIV and MVR Constructions had led to sufferings of commuters on this western bypass during night time which leads to major accidents with severe and serious injuries and taking away precious lives”.
