In a tragic incident, an 8-year-old boy, who was missing since Friday noon, was found dead in the Chapora River on Saturday morning. He died of drowning, Anjuna police informed.
The deceased, Sahil Salgaonkar, of Bhati-Oxel in Siolim, was schooling in class 3 at St Francis Xavier’s High School in Siolim. The family lived in a house which was near the Chapora River.
According to police, on Friday afternoon the child was dropped home from school by his dad who went to pick up his second child from school.
The child without informing the mother went out near the river bank but was noticed by some neighbours who immediately dropped him back home.
Unfortunately, the child gave his mother the slip the second time and went out never to return.
The family members and the neighbours then began to hunt for the child throughout the evening and night. Anjuna police were also informed about the missing child.
Late in the night, the missing child’s photograph was posted in WhatsApp groups which soon went viral.
