The Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) led by ward Councillor Lavina D’Souza inaugurated a paved footpath near the St Andrew’s Church.
St Andrew’s Church Parish Priest Fr Gabriel Coutinho along with other residents were present during the inauguration of the footpath.
Speaking to reporters, D’Souza said the earlier footpath, which was in bad shape, had been used by a large number of people going to church or students going to school.
“This was a long-pending demand, especially since the road along the footpath is used by heavy vehicles. Students can now safely walk along the footpath to reach the school,” said D’Souza.
“This is only a part of the larger project on footpaths and pavers in my ward. Work will also be undertaken on a footpath near the Zaee Zuee building as well,” D’Souza added.
Fr Coutinho said he was happy with the work taken up by MMC on the new footpath.
“These are public utilities which need to be taken up and the quality of work is also very good. I appeal to the people to take good care of facilities provided by the MMC. Lavina D’Souza has always been in the forefront of initiating good works in and around her ward,” said Fr Coutinho.
