Mission political quota for STs to launch 'Ulgulaan' movement in Panaji today Members of the Mission Political Reservations for Scheduled Tribes of Goa announcing launching of Ulgulaan movement to demand political reservations for the ST community.

The  Mission Political Reservation for Scheduled Tribes of Goa’ will finally launch “Ulgulaan” movement for the tribal rights and political reservations mandated by the Constitution of India at a public meeting called at the Azad Maidan on November 15 at 3 pm on the occasion of Birth Anniversary of Tribal freedom fighter Bhagawan Birsa Munda “ the first tribal revolutionary who fought for the tribal rights against the British.

Spokesperson of Mission Political Reservations Govind Shirodkar has reiterated that since Liberation, Goa’s ST Community has been deprived of their Constitutional rights, basic amenities, TSP funds, land rights, Forest rights, backlog vacancies, quality education, agricultural benefits etc.

He said the ST communities across Goan  villages are still living a poor life, saying anti-social elements, perpetrators are playing all types of tricks to grab the tribal lands threatening and suppressing the voice of the community, wiping out STs from public representations and from the mainstream functioning.

“The ST’s are the original settlers of Goa, sons of the soil; their rights, interest and future can be secured only through Political Representation enshrined under Article 330 and Article 332 of the Constitution”, he added.

Mission President Adv Joao Fernandes has made a fervent plea to the ST brothers & sisters to attend the November 15 meeting at the Azad Maidan, Panaji at 3:00 pm in large numbers.

“We are original Bhumiputras, hence deserve all constitutional benefits. Let us ask for it with one voice. It's our duty to stand up for the cause of community and future of our children”, Joao appealed.

The Mission pointed out that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on July 21, 2023 had assured on the floor of the house in the last concluded assembly session that he will take all party delegation to the Centre. The Mission, however, lamented that even after three and a half months from the day of adopting the unanimous resolution which was placed by MLA Ganesh Gaonkar, there are no positive steps taken by the Goa Government to fulfill the assurance of taking the all-party delegation to the Centre.

“Even after giving 15 days ultimatum on October 25 by Mission Political Reservation Team to the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, he has failed to respond positively. The entire Scheduled Tribe (ST) Community of Goa is feeling cheated and betrayed. Therefore, Mission Political Reservation for Scheduled tribes of Goa, which is a body supported by 16 ST organizations has decided to Launch Ulgulaan (Jan Andolan) to wake up government on pending demand of Political Reservation for Scheduled Tribes of Goa”,  added Mission general secretary Rupesh Velip.
