While Mapusa Municipal Council Chairperson, Sandeep Falari complimented the Chief Minister for his “visionary” budget, former MGP youth leader and Mapusa resident, Mahesh Rane said most of the Budget proposals for Mapusa were a “farce”.
Falari said the projects proposed for Mapusa were long overdue, and lauded Parrikar for his “visionary” budget.
“The proposals are good. It’s like taking forward the plans proposed by the task force on development of Mapusa,” Falari said.
According to Mapusa Merchants’ Association president, Ashish Shirodkar, Mapusa stood to gain from the budgetary plans. “I am happy the Chief Minister has spelled out Rs 20 crore for infrastructure projects in Mapusa. I hope at least a small proportion of the amount will be spent on the upgradation of the Mapusa market,” Shirodkar said.
Surendra Sirsat, ex-Speaker and former Mapusa MLA, said the emphasis on Mapusa has to be appreciated. “On the other hand, it also shows that Mapusa was neglected all these years,” he added.
He said the school complex project should be implemented quickly, as most schools in Mapusa were located in the heart of the city and did not have adequate infrastructure.
Former MGP youth leader Mahesh Rane said most budget proposals for Mapusa were a “farce”, with the same things being repeated for the last 10 years. The only new initiative in the Budget was the Rs 20 crore allocation for special infra projects, which according to him, was also a pittance.
“What provision has the cm made for Ravindra Bhavan or for the new bus stand for Mapusa? Locals are longing for a Ravindra Bhavan which has eluded the Mapxekars. How more long will we have to wait? These Budget proposals are nothing but a farce. The same projects are being repeated year after year but never see the light of the day,” he said. tgn
