MLA asks Canacona p'yats to emulate Shristhal BMC

CANACONA
Lauding the Shristhal Biodiversity Management Committee (BMC) for leading the way, Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes called upon other panchayats in Canacona to activate their biodiversity diversity committees in their villages.

Addressing a function to felicitate the Shristhal panchayat and Sarpanch Ganesh Gaonkar, after its BMC had bagged state biodiversity awards, Fernandes appealed to intellectuals and writers to pen books on Vakdalis (Healers) on their traditional and natural healing methods.

“These traditional healers have a lot of natural healing concepts, but I don't find much studies or books on their traditional medicine,” said Fernandes.

After felicitating Shristhal sarpanch Ganesh Gaonkar, Fernandes said: “Shristhal panchayat has shown the way regarding biodiversity management. The six other panchayats in Canacona taluka have been shown the way and it is for them to emulate the Shristhal BMC.”

BMC Shristhal had recently bagged state-level biodiversity conservation awards at the BMC and individual categories.

On the occasion, awards and certificates were given to students who had participated in a competition organised by BMC Shristhal.

In the absence of Goa State Biodiversity Board member Secretary Dr Pradip Sarmokoddam, BMC Shristhal handed over 'Vojem' filled with locally grown vegetables and fruits in the village to Biodiversity Management Board representative Varsha Hoble.

Others present on the occasion included ACF (Forest) Clifa Costa, RFO Sangam Gawas, RFO Vikramaditya, Shristhal panchayat members, Shristhal BMC Chairman Vinay Tubki, members Damodar Chari, Shirish Pai, Secretary Sandeep Desai, BJP South Vice President Mahesh Naik and Canacona BJP Block President Nandeep Bhagat.
