Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar on Wednesday said a number of facilities and amenities were being added to put Baina beach on the world map and added that the new police outpost would soon be operational at Baina.
Speaking to reporters after inaugurating the first shack of the season at Baina beach, Amonkar said Baina beach had been neglected for many years and it was only after the red light area was removed by former CM late Manohar Parrikar that there seemed to be some scope of improvement.
“I want to ensure that Baina beach is an important tourism spot and competes with many famous beaches in Goa. We have introduced water sports in the area and we are witnessing a heavy footfall of tourists here,” said Amonkar.
“Additionally, shacks are now being set up at the beach to attract more tourists and provide a source of employment for the locals here.”
“We also have the best flyover in Goa which offers the entire Arabian sea and a very scenic beauty which adds to the rising tourism on this beach. We have discussed with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte to beautify the entire stretch of this beach through the tourism department,” Amonkar added.
Amonkar said other proposals had been placed for improvement of facilities and amenities at Baina beach.
“We have also constructed a new police outpost on the beach and it will be inaugurated within this month. We also plan to have a viewing gallery at Baina but we awaiting the completion of the four-lane port connectivity flyover,” said Amonkar.
