Public hearing on power tariff hike 0n Jan 8-9

For the third consecutive year, the Goa electricity department has proposed power tariff hike to the low tension domestic and other category consumers for the financial year 2023-24. The Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC) will hold a public hearing on the proposed power tariff hike on January 8-9, 2024.

According to the petition submitted to the JERC, the department has proposed a hike in energy charges of low tension domestic consumers from Rs 1.75/kWh to Rs 1.88/kWh for 0-100 units, from Rs 2.6 to Rs 2.79/kWh for consumption between 101-200 units, from Rs 3.3/kWh to Rs 3.7/kWh for consumption between 201-300 units, from Rs4.4/kWh to Rs 4.9/kWh between 301-400 units and from Rs 5.1/kWh to Rs 5.8/kWh per unit for consumption above 400 units.

There was no power tariff hike for two years of COVID-pandemic; however since 2022-23, the department has increased the electricity charges by adding additional streetlight duties.

Meanwhile, the JERC will hold a public hearing on the petition on January 8, 2024 for North Goa and January 9, 2024 for South Goa. For north, the hearing will be held at Mini Conference Hall of - Institute Menezes Braganza while South Goa Mathany Saldanha Administrative Complex.
