The Margao Municipal Council on Wednesday gave its stamp of approval for the temporary storage of RDF at the adjoining land at Sonsodo, even as the civic body okayed a five-tonne bio-methane plant in the city.
At the Wednesday meeting of the civic body chaired by chairperson Pooja Naik, the councilors further gave a green signal to the civic body to dump inert material generated through the remediation process on the MMC-acquired parking lot at the Old market and the railway projects after seeking a nod from the Goa State Pollution Control Board.
Chief Officer Ajit Panchwadkar informed the civic body over the meetings held with the district Collector and the decision taken on the disposal of the remediated waste. He said the administration has started a dialogue with the railways as well to explore the possibility of using the inert waste for land filling.
The Council was also informed about the decision taken by GSUDA to give sanction for the technical specifications given to the bio-methane plant.
The five-tonne plant will now require a technical sanction once the MMC identifies land admeasuring 600 square meters.
The Council was told that the civic body will tender the plant once the government grants the technical sanction.
