Ahead of the Zilla Panchayat polls scheduled in mid-March, Cuncolim MLA Clafacio Dias laid the foundation stone for the long-pending Road under Bridge (RUBO) at the Chandor railway station, exuding confidence that the project will keep the BJP candidate for the Guirdolim Zilla panchayat seat in good stead.
Laying the foundation stone for the Rs 2 crore RUB at the railway crossing, Clafacio said the project, which has been pending for the last 40 years, will go a long way in ameliorating the hardships faced by the villagers of Chandor, Guirdolim and Macazana.
Conceding that the BJP will field a candidate for the Guirdolim ZP seat on the party banner, Clafacio said that while he is confident that his candidate will poll majority votes in the panchayats of Balli, Ambaulim and Paroda, the RUB project will help him to win the Catholic votes in the two villages of Chandor and Guirdolim.
“People of these two villages have been facing hardships for too long. The RUB promises to realize their long standing demand,” he said.
He thanked Chief Minister Pramod Sawant for honouring his word to commence work on the RUB by January 15, exuding confidence that project will be complete in all respects by May.
Saying that he has fulfilled one of his major election promises made to the people of Chandor, Clafacio said he will soon take up the work of the playground in Guirdolim village.
The six-meter wide RUB with 2.8 meter height is expected to tide over the traffic bottlenecks at the Chandor railway crossing during frequent closure of the gate.
