Sending a message loud and clear that the District Disaster Management Authority will not remain a silent spectator to the dilapidated and old buildings posing danger to public lives and property of citizens, district Collector, Egna Cleetus has directed the Margao Municipal Chief Officer to submit a fresh report/supplementary list on the number of cases pertaining to the old and dilapidated buildings.
The MMC Chief Officer has submitted a list of 21 buildings which have been identified as unsafe for habitation. At the meeting with the district Collector, the Margao Municipal engineer, however, submitted that the owners have not submitted the Structural Stability report and neither they can obtain the structure stability report from the Goa College of Engineering since the civic body will have to make payment for the inspection.
The MMC Chief Officer is reported to have further requested to issue directions to the PWD Buildings to obtain the Structure Stability Reports and to issue suitable orders for demolition if applicable. In this regard, the District Collector, South has directed the Deputy Collector, South -1 to write to PWD (Buildings) WD VIII to take up the matter and obtain the reports in a week's time for issuing necessary orders.
The District Collector & Chairperson, DDMA further directed the MMC Chief Officer to submit a fresh report/supplementary list on the number of cases pending at their level within a week so that her office can move a separate file to the Government or direct the Goa College of Engineering to conduct/obtain structural stability of the pending dilapidated buildings and structures and take necessary action.
